I came across a news article from May of last year discussing the redevelopment of 34th Street in St. Petersburg. The article states that the demographics are appealing to developers since approximately 50,000 people live within 2 miles of the intersection of 34th Street and 22nd Avenue. While that all leads to great things for businesses already there and the potential to employ a greater number it has me wonder what will the increase in new business mean for the overall increase in traffic?
The intersection of 34th Street and 22nd Avenue accounted for 24 total accidents last year with 13 reported injuries. That may not seem like a large number in and of itself, but that number could see a large increase with the new businesses going into that area. Regardless of what new businesses enter the scene, make sure to use caution when approaching an intersection. Always put down your phone, slow down and look around.
