Clearwater or Tampa Semi-Truck Accident?
Semi trucks can be an extreme hazard on the highways. They cannot stop quickly, they sway and their drivers struggle with fatigue. If you are struck by a semi-truck your injuries could be catastrophic.
Do not “follow” behind a semi-truck traveling down the highway, especially at close distances. Doing so essentially blocks your view of the road, other drivers and makes you invisible to the semi-truck driver.
Never pull into a lane directly in front of a semi-truck when it is approaching quickly. If you must pull into their lane, do so at least three to four car lengths in front of them. If you must slow down, slow down slowly, as they cannot slow down quickly and will rear-end you.
Try not to drive alongside a semi-truck, as the sway from the trailer could swing into your vehicle causing a severe accident. Instead, either pass and travel on down the roadaway from the truck. Or in the alternative, if the trucker is speeding, let them travel on and keep your distance.
Of special concern is if you cannot see the truck driver in their side mirrors, they cannot see you. Do not assume that they can see you or know you are there. It is better to be alive and well, with your car intact, than insist that you have the right away, and get into an accident with a semi-truck. Semi-trucks are large, heavy vehicles weighing in excess of 80,000 pounds in some cases. They are best avoided and only passed with due caution.
