Have a Teen Driver in Tampa Bay?

Have a Teen Driver in Tampa Bay?

In the US, the leading cause of death for 15-18-year-old teenagers is motor vehicle accidents. Studies show in 2016, over 2000 teenage drivers were involved in fatal car accidents.

Last week, a 17-year-old Hernando County girl died as a result of injuries from a crash on US 19 due to erratic driving. The young girl was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by a 20-year-old male. The vehicle she was in was engaging in erratic driving along with a second vehicle. Sadly, their vehicle lost control, flipped, and she was ejected from the vehicle. Neither the driver or the young girl was wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. The second vehicle fled the scene and police are looking for that vehicle and its driver.

Local deputies in Hillsborough County and in Polk County are offering classes on safe driving to local teens. They hope to reduce the number of fatal crashes and make an overall difference in how safe teens drive. These courses are being offered for free!

This tragic accident is a reminder to all on the importance of wearing seat belts in a moving vehicle. It is also a reminder to all teenagers to engage in safe driving.
