Personal Injury Protection (PIP) in Clearwater Auto Accidents

If you have insurance in Florida, you have Personal Injury Protection, or PIP for short. PIP is there, whether you’re at fault or not for an accident. PIP helps you with your medical bills. After you have been in an auto accident, present your medical providers with your auto insurance card, and if you have health insurance, your health insurance card. They will bill your auto insurance first, and your health insurance as a secondary source.

Your auto insurance carrier will pay 80% the allowable amount of your medical bills. You are responsible for 20% of the allowable amount, which is known as your patient responsibility. However, many doctors will hold off on collecting this 20% balance until your car accident case settles as they understand that most people have not budgeted for an unexpected expense such as an auto accident.  In general, your PIP will pay your medical bills until you have exhausted your $10,000.00 benefits.   After your PIP is exhausted, you should continue to receive treatment using your health insurance coverage, if any.

PIP will also partially reimburse you for prescriptions or other medically necessary items prescribed by your physician. In order to receive reimbursement, you will have to submit a copy of the prescription and the entire receipt you receive when you make your purchase.  Personal Injury Attorney Chelsie M. Lamie and her team always take the time to explain your PIP coverage and to help you receive the reimbursements you are allowed under Florida law from your PIP coverage when they represent you for your Clearwater Car Accident case.
